my friend just purchased a 2009 Outback. It needed new tires so the dealer put these on it. I’m guessing they were the cheapest on the shelf. Should he request something else? I googles and looked at places like Town Fair tire and couldn’t find any reviews or anything at reputable places.

Dude, i don’t see what your issue is, I mean the website in the “all about Zeetex” section says, and I quote:
Ranging from Product Launches, Drifting, and Tire Testing, ZEETEX has created memories and is continuing to do so. Explore ZEETEX videos to know more about the brand, its products, and see its expedition across the regions.
Seems toally legit.

From visual inspection, they don’t look that bad. You can usually tell a badly designed tire if the edges are more squared than rounded.
Here’s a British site with a ton of reviews. Don’t look too terrible, but not great either. He should probably just pick some new ones up if he experiences issues.

they should probably consider what memories they create
not all memories are good memories

“ZEETEX has created memories and is continuing to do so.”
Tires blowing out and the car careening into a ditch will create a hell of a memory.

Well the stock photo shows them mounted on Enkei NT03+M wheels, so that photo could have been taken anytime in the last 500 years.
I wouldn’t expect much from those though. Some wandering and noise at speed, maybe early cracking. If these were freebies, at least he can hold off buying real tires, but if it needed tires, he should have worked it into the purchase.

As someone who bought a CPO Acura with cheap korean tires installed by the dealer, he needs to absolutely demand different tires to be installed. If not he will regret it. If people keep demanding different tires maybe they will stop this sleezy practice.

If I’m not mistaken, those are the same brand as a pair of the mismatched tires Clarkson’s 528i Touring had in the Uganda special when he first got it. I only remember because he had made the point of pointing it out as part of his introduction to the condition of the car.

Firestone tire failures were a result of Ford engineers not wanting to re-design the suspension on Explorers to prevent rollovers, so those lazy fucks just recommended lowering air pressure in the OE Firestone tires, which lead to premature fatigue and failure of the tires. Also from SUV owners not properly inflating their tires for a better ride quality.

You’ve gotta be lying. Ford engineers would never cut corners and create a dangerous situation, just to save a few dollars.

Last recent tire purchases I’ve made, I was surprised how many low-end tires there are on the market now. It’s harder to even trust some of the “acceptable brand” tires too unless checking into real reviews. Seems like cutting the price and buying your own tires is the way to go now since it’s so easy for the dealer to buy your friend the $44 special tire package. Still would be a problem if you are trying to buy a car with a safety certificate / inspection with bald tires.

I would say this brand is safe enough that you can condescendingly lecture him about the tires being the most important part of the car, and that he should have demanded at least a better knockoff, like Stonebridge or Shimmelin.

Eh, that’s really more of an Audi 5000 type thing. It was more news companies making a story where there wasn’t really one. This car was no more dangerous than any other similarly sized car at the time.

Always gotta specify OE, otherwise this can happen. Googled them myself, found prices of about $70 for an 18" tire. That’s cheeeaaapppp .

I got 65k on those firestones, when they did the recall we got a brand new set of bridgstones for free and got another 60k off of those. They were very good light truck tires.

If he already paid for the car and took it home then the dealer probably won’t do shit. “You wanted new tires, we put new tires on it.”

this is true but you would also think a Subaru dealer selling a Subaru would use OE parts

It’s not certified used. Never be surprised that a car dealership selling a used car put cheap tires on it. Sometimes on 4wd trucks/SUVs or performance cars they’ll actually put good tires on as a selling point but those cases are vastly outnumbered by regular used cars with the cheapest available tires so the dealer can say “THIS SUNDAY SUNDAY SUNDAY COME ON DOWN FOR CRAZY DEALS ON THIS 2009 OUTBACK WITH BRAND NEW TIRES!!! ”

If a dealer is putting on new tires, you can expect it to be cheapo Chinese brand tires.
Having said that, they’re not all terrible.
I would say that you can try them and/or use them up and then replace them with something better.

Found this. http://www.tirereview.com/zeetex-reports… They are cheap. Found bad reviews on German websites for other model tires of the same brand. Company is from Dubai but you’d need to search sidewall for country of origin.

Hey a set of those came on the Volvo S40 I used to have. They were awful. To be fair, they didn’t have a ton of life when I bought the thing but a set of Michelins was the best upgrade I ever did on that car. Those Zeetex things would slip and skid starting uphill on even a slightly slick surface if it was wet.

You do realize the whole pinto thing is blown way out of proportion right? Toyota sudden aceleration problems killed more people than pinto fires. To top it off the pinto was a great seller in the 70's. Reason you dont see them around? They were disposable cars. Its the same reason you don’t see a nissan centra from the 80's/90's/early 2000's anymore.

Didn’t the Toyota issue turn out to be mostly human error?
And I used the Pinto since there are not a ton of cars that were considered ‘very unsafe’ due to penny pinching.
